How to Apply to be an on-ice (referee) or off-ice official (timekeeper)

NOTE: 2026-27 selections have been made - the association is full at this time.

Fill out the application form above to be added to the waitlist.

- Note: Only applicants selected will be contacted & submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance
- Applications will be reviewed late August / early September each year prior to the start of the season.
- Please be aware only a limited number of applicants will be selected

If selected new officials must complete:

- "Intro to Officiating" on the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR)
- After the above is completed you will be able to register for a New Official clinic on the HCR
- Officials aged 18 and up are required to complete a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check

Eligibility

New officials must be at least 12 years of age by December 31 of the current hockey season
Reside in the Dartmouth Zone as defined by Hockey Nova Scotia.

Equipment

All officials are responsible for obtaining the required officiating equipment and wearing the appropriate attire.

Timekeeping

There is no course for timekeeping for new off-ice officials. You will shadow an experienced timekeeper for a couple of games
Mobile device with internet is required for gamesheets.
